Ironically, much of this was driven by adversity. Thanks for your kind comments Leu. I love your site, it made me nostalgic for the 80s, even though it was a tough time for LGBT rights, it still held so much hope.

Some regional legislators in places like the UK, US and Australia introduced anti-discrimination laws. A finding that the US government tried — unsuccessfully — to conceal. While there have, undoubtedly, been significant milestones in LGBT history in earlier decades, I believe the 80s gay a particularly important period.

In Europe, Lesbian and Gay Pride 85 march in London saw thousands of participants in the streets and on television, all the while becoming an important turning point in for LGB laws in the UK. The theme in all these Pride events through this decade tried to be a theme of acceptance and of visibility.

Hopefully soon, I think this generation is just starting to realize it. It was during this decade that the queer community began to gain visibility and recognition. This wasn't just 80s case for the United States. LGBT history during that period was, indeed, a rich tapestry.
